Systems Engineering and Computing laboratories are strengthened

With an investment of more than 300 million pesos, in the first phase, the Systems and Computing Engineering program acquired, with the support of the Vice-Rector for Extension and Social Development, 25 state-of-the-art computers equipped with a robust configuration to support practical of high computational demand, related to training in competencies and skills specific to this field of knowledge, guaranteeing the management of computer resources of industry 4.0.

Academic impact

It should be noted that with this important acquisition, academic areas and spaces will benefit such as Storage and processing of large volumes of data (Big Data), Knowledge Management, Knowledge discovery from data (Data Mining), Business Intelligence, Management of information technology infrastructure services and security, Cloud Computing, Enterprise Architecture, User-centered development and testing, HCI Fundamentals, Data Visualization and Advanced Programming, among others.

These computer equipment were installed in rooms B and C of the laboratories in this academic program and are already in operation, ready for the use of the more than 1,200 students of the day and night time periods of the Program. With these teams, there will be the possibility of developing extension projects, through continuing training proposals in different areas of computing, as well as courses and diplomas for all Uniquindians and the general public.

 

Social projection

According to the vice-rector of Extension and Social Development, Luís Fernando Polanía Obando , “the support for the technological strengthening of the laboratories of the University of Quindío not only benefits those who train at the institution but also all those actors in the multiple helix, which includes the State, the productive sector and the communities, which decide to establish links with Uniquindío to generate research, development and innovation in this area of ​​high demands today.

In the opinion of the director of the Systems and Computing Engineering program, engineer Robinson Pulgarín Giraldo, with the strengthening of the laboratories the academic community, teachers and civil society are fulfilled, in response to the commitments demanded by High Institutional Quality. and social projection in our alma mater.

Technological improvement and High Quality

It is worth mentioning that the investment project will continue with the acquisition of other equipment, managed by the Program management and with the support of the aforementioned vice-rector's office, in order to advance with the process of modernization of the laboratories, in accordance with the Improvement Plan of the Program , following the recommendations of the CNA, after the recent renewal of the High Quality Accreditation, obtained under resolution 001025 of February 3, 2023.

In this sense, it is necessary to specify that one of the aspects on which greater emphasis was placed to obtain the new Accreditation was the enrichment of the offer aimed at engineers who graduated from this academic program, in favor of their job placement, at the level national and international, since, according to studies carried out by the Program, "graduates practice their profession in different areas, in which software engineering, information and knowledge management and information technology infrastructure stand out, showing the coherence between the occupation of the graduates and their training profile, supported by evidence of 78.18% of graduates employed and/or undertaking in these areas.
